Into the game - Green Oaks oneshot

We start the new season strong with a session of Green Oaks. The characters are:

  • Oronzio “Roberto” Alzabandiera (played by me), an ex member of the mafia, a builder in retirement with fishing as a hobby, and member of the aviation club;
  • Travio, ex serial killer, robot in retirement with viruses as a hobby and member of the pyrotechnics club, he’s an old man that’s actually a robot that looks like a hot woman;
  • Oronzo “Mimmo” Sterzio, an ex knife thrower and superhero in retirement, his power causing things to randomly be “undone” around him (for example knots got untied and doors opened);
  • Bob, an ex ninja and nun in retirement with a passion for calendars.

Despite some misadventures involving some unknown pills stolen by Bob and a gastrointestinal virus, the old man was doing good, but everything changed when Travio messed around with a gameboy and the phone cables, and somehow pulled us all inside the gameboy. The gameboy is used by the Green Oaks residents to play a simulation game: many used that as an opportunity to look at construction sites, but a lot of them also used it to play card games, in which they gained points that could be used as in-game money.

Our characters found themselves in a bar, and immediately I went to the young people drinking there and started complaining about the new building techniques, because people don’t make buildings like they used to, and these new “screws” absolutely ruined constructions, because back then you had to actually think about how to make things fit together, carefully interlocking materials and using ancient rituals and sacred geometry to not make it fall down.

In the meantime, a zombie horde was approaching and Travio set fire to the bar. The other people were trying to run away, but I would always sit them back down because I wasn’t done complaining, young people these days don’t even put people inside concrete pillars and that’s why buildings don’t last. To show these youngsters the real meaning of building I decided to build an improvised fire extinguisher in front of them using only some tables, chairs, plates, spoons and a fire extinguisher. When this didn’t work I threw a fit and started smashing down everything I had, unknowingly putting out the fire.

But now the zombie hoard was approaching, so while Travio and an hallucinating Mimmo tried to kill Bob, I called my old supplier and ordered a concrete mixer at my place. The mixer arrived, but driving it was Giannantonio, a known cheater that had everything he wanted because his son is the creator of the game. Bob tried to rob Giannantonio, who in response bombed the place, while Travio used the mixer to fill the bar with concrete, trying to kill the two inside. Luckily people can respawn in the game, so Bob finished robbing Giannantonio.

In the meantime we drove the mixer to an airport, while Bob followed us there with a newly bought helicopter because now she was rich. We stole a military plane in there and headed towards the site of project Manhattan, but outside of the place we saw 20 cultist bodybuilder zombies surrounding Giannantonio performing a ritual. Giannantonio used everything he had, guns, bombs and all but he couldn’t hurt the zombies.

We devised a plan that involved tying Travio to the plane with a rope and “drop him down” while holding Bob, so that while I flew low she could snatch the hood from one of the zombies so that we could then disguise as one, but Travio once again decided to try and kill Bob, dropping her in the middle of the ritual. Bob surprisingly survived quite well, killing one of the zombies with a spoon, but becoming extremely irritable and tired doing so, so she went to take a nap somewhere.

I decided to crash the plane on the zombies and Giannantonio (who had a lot of lives and cheats so I knew he would survive, although I really hope that I could kill him too), killing seven zombies. Using my experience as a mafia member I decided to bribe one of the zombies, offering him a prestigious position if he betrayed his allies. He liked the idea, and the kid also seemed to have potential, but he insisted that he wanted to have control of all construction sites and that he was the best builder ever. Obviously I couldn’t let it slide, so I tore off his head, but as I did, Travio set off the nuclear bomb on the site, killing us all in the process.

We respawned, but Giannantonio explained to us the situation: our real body had entered the game, and by dying we had effectively lost it, so we were trapped inside the game. As a thanks however Giannantonio asked the admin to give us system permission, so that we could live on inside the game and become part of the code. Travio immediately used his powers to turn Bob into a fly and delete Giannantonio, while I recreated the zombies that I killed earlier to put him into a separate simulation in which I would kill him again and again until the end of times. So yes, we are dead but things aren’t that bad.
